Getting crushed by a barbell cuts down on the fun. Let’s avoid that! Learn how to miss a snatch behind you SAFELY — In today’s episode of Weightlifting Academy!
I already did a video Part 1 discussing the fundamentals of missing ANY lift in the gym. Today’s episode is about the snatch specifically, so these rules are specific to it.
Today’s 3 rules of missing a snatch safely are:
- Arms LOCKED at all times during the miss (just like a snatch lockout).
- Hips forwards (this gets your lower spine out of the way of the falling barbell!)
- Go FAST!
The last point is worth mentioning twice: go FAST! It’s hesitation and fear that will cause you to go too slow and not get out of the way of the barbell fast enough. Fuck your fear, go fast.
Remember that Rule #3 in my gym is: Don’t fuck up tomorrow’s workout. This is one way to stay within the rules 😉
